My tips are usually Internet related but I’m going to break from that this month and recommend a free program for your Window’s PC.
Answer.com is a wonderful resource for obtaining word or phrase related information. The folks at answer.com have recently made a desktop version of their product available for free. Once you have installed "1-Click Answers"; on your PC you can bring up information on any word, in any application, simply by holding down the Alt key and while holding the Atl key down left click the your work of choice. A small window, such as show below, opens with more information than you probably want or need.
There are usually links for a thesaurus and lists of synonyms and antonyms. There is also a pronunciation guide.
The program automatically loads when you start your computer and it lurks in the background until you need it.
