From the Presidents Desk
From the July/August 2008.

It is with mixed feelings that I begin my tenure as president of the NCVOA.
While it is an honor to serve, succeeding Nick Capozzi’s full term would have been my preference. On behalf of the Executive Board I would like to thank Nick for his many years of service, his commitment and dedication to our organization is deeply appreciated and we wish him well in his future endeavors.
Although the summer months are usually quiet ones for the VOA, the Town of North Hempstead has reintroduced Flow Control and had all intentions of reinstituting it at their July 8th board meeting. I am proud to announce that the 31 North Hempstead Villages were well represented at that meeting and effectively delayed the vote. NCVOA Solid Waste Chairman, North Hills Mayor Marvin Natiss, spoke eloquently on our behalf and was followed by Mayors Strada, Martins, Samansky, Petruccio, and Durkin, as well as trustees and attorneys from many other interested villages. Each speaker was well versed in the negative aspects of Flow control leading Supervisor Kaiman and his Board to put off their decision until July 29th. Mayor Natiss and his Committee will be meeting with the Supervisor before then, and hopefully we as a group will be successful in defeating this unreasonable legislation
Come September we have arranged for some informative and timely programs. Nassau County OEM Commissioner and Malverne Deputy Mayor Jim Callahan will be our Speaker in September to discuss the impacts of the recently updated Nassau County Flood Maps. In October John Spellman, Matthew Smith and Neil Peysner will provide an encore of their recent NYCOM Presentation on the pro’s and con’s of reassessment and The Homestead Tax Option.
I hope that you all have a relaxing summer and look forward to seeing you all at LaMarmite in the fall.
